Ingredients
- Milk: Whole milk will make the creamiest oats. However, you can use any type of milk you like. I use Fairlife 2% milk because some within my family are lactose-sensitive.
- Maple Syrup: Since maple Syrup is one of the main ingredients, use real maple syrup. Avoid artificial pancake syrup. If needed, you can substitute this with honey
- Oats: Use rolled oats or old-fashioned oats. These will create the perfect texture for overnight oats. Avoid quick or instant oats which will end up too soggy. Steel-cut oats will also not work as their texture is too tough.
- Brown Sugar: Brown sugar adds sweetness and a rich, caramel flavor. You can use light, golden, and dark brown sugar. Use granulated sugar as a substitute.
- Cinnamon: A small amountof cinnamon adds a cozy, fall flavor.
- Vanilla Extract: A small dash of vanilla extract adds a bit of sweetness.
- Pecans: These oats are topped with pecans, which gives them a bit of crunch and makes them a filling breakfast.
Pro-Tips
- For a bit of extra sweetness, add an extra drizzle of maple syrup and a sprinkle of brown sugar before serving.
- These oats can become thicker the longer they sit in the fridge. Add a splash of milk to refresh the oats right before serving them!
- If you prefer to eat overnight oats warm, heat them in the microwave for 30 to 60 second before serving
Storage
In the fridge: Overnight oats will last up to 5 days in the fridge if stored in an airtight container. However they will taste the freshest if they are consumed within 2 to 3 days,
Optional Add-ins
- Yogurt
- Chia Seeds
Alterations
- I like a thicker texture so I add yogurt to my oats as well! Too soupy of a texture in my opinion is a little off-putting in my opinion.
- For more texture, I added chia seeds to the overnight oats in the morning before eating to add more nutrition and create a more filling breakfast.
